Why do they have tense?

In language

Alphabet, Punctuation, Sentence, Verb

Would do.

But what worth is tense,

Apart from hurting wounded souls,

It makes no sense

A beloved in a moment it tags

As dead.

And makes the lover realize

And cry bitterly by asserting

The "Was" being said

" Used to " stamps on the tongue

Crumpling all hopes

That he might be present

And " Did " and " Had " melt the

Heart, burn it, slaughter the soul

Forcing it each time to believe

He isn’t there.

And exists no more
